Cleaning During Treatment
It is important to brush your teeth and brace well twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste. It is helpful to check around the brace after each meal to ensure no food trapping. The use of a soft brush is recommended and oscillating electric brushes can help with technique. Pay particular attention and brush where the gums meet the teeth. Brushing will take longer and you will be shown how to use interproximal brushes to clean around your brackets.
Also use a daily fluoride mouthwash last thing at night after brushing, this has been shown to protect the enamel of the teeth.
Failure to keep your teeth clean will lead to permanent scarring (decalcification) on your teeth.
