Dealing with Discomfort
When teeth start to move it is normal to feel some discomfort. This usually starts on the evening following the brace placement and can last for a few days. It is advisable to take regular pain relief during this period with paracetamol and or ibruprofen being recommended. It is always important to check that there are no medical reasons why the painkillers cannot be taken.
In the early stages of treatment the brace may rub the lips and cheeks. Orthodontic wax will be provided for you which can be applied to the brace so that sore areas are allowed to settle. “Brace Eze” (www.braceeze.com) is an alternative to wax.
