Inlays & Onlays

Now you can proudly show off your wonderful smile!

  • An inlay, is essentially used to restore a tooth’s natural shape, function and appearance.
  • It’s placed into the cavity, so as to restore the tooth to its full strength and functionality.
  • Porcelain inlays are commonly used, as well as tooth-coloured composite resin. The inlay only covers a small section of the biting surface of the tooth.
  • Inlays and Onlays are different types of restorations. Inlays cover only a small section of the biting surface of the tooth while an Onlay covers a larger area. This area usually covers one or more of your tooth’s cusps.
  • Because of this, Onlays are useful for creating a more natural biting profile.

The benefits

  • Inlays & Onlays don’t require removal of a large amount of natural tooth material, so are not as intrusive as other treatments.
  • They also help to prolong tooth life
  • They are extremely durable due to the materials used, and so a fantastic choice for patients who wish to restore the tooth’s natural form.
  • Excellent, natural-looking aesthetics.

More about Inlays & Onlays

HOW ARE INLAYS & ONLAYS INSERTED?

  • One of our highly skilled cosmetic dentists will take impressions of your teeth, before sending it to the dental laboratory, so as to ensure the inlay or onlay is a perfect fit for your tooth.
  • After this, your dentist will need to remove any tooth decay, and this will require an anaesthetic in order to ensure a pain-free, comfortable experience.
  • Subsequently, the tooth will be shaped in order to fit the inlay/onlay.
  • A temporary filling is placed until the inlay/onlay is ready, where it will be placed on one of your next visits to the dentist.
